Transforming Local Bumper Crop Abundance into Sovereign Wealth

Malawi possesses rich arable land and favorable temperatures ideal for high-yield tomato cultivation. However, due to historical gaps in industrial processing infrastructure, up to 40% of fresh tomato harvests rotted every year during peak harvest seasons, causing severe economic loss to local smallholders.

The Tomato Processing & Derivatives Complex changes the narrative: By establishing a state-of-the-art processing facility with triple-effect vacuum evaporators, we convert fresh tomatoes into shelf-stable, high-demand export derivatives (tomato paste, puree, ketchup, and passata). This guarantees a minimum floor price and 100% buyback for farmers while generating foreign exchange (Forex) through export across SADC, Africa, and global markets.

Manufactured High-Value Derivatives Portfolio

Concentrated Paste

28-30% Brix double-concentrated paste in 70g, 400g cans & 220kg aseptic drums.

Tomato Puree & Passata

Smooth strained tomato puree bottled in glass jars for retail and food service.

Gourmet Ketchup & Sauces

Rich seasoned tomato ketchup, chili-tomato dips, and pizza/pasta sauces.

Diced & Peeled Whole

Peeled whole tomatoes and diced tomato blocks sealed in tin cans for export.

From Harvest Intake to Derivatives Export

Click through the interactive workflow stages below to explore how the Tomato Derivatives Complex operates.

Gentle Flume Washing & Optical Sorters

Fresh red tomatoes delivered from smallholders and Mega Farm blocks are unloaded into water-flume channels. The gentle water stream cleans soil and debris without bruising tomatoes, while roller inspection belts filter out underripe produce.

Controlled Hot-Break & Cold-Break Thermal Pulpers

Tomatoes pass into thermal pulpers: Hot-Break treatment (95°C) inactivates enzymes to retain natural pectin for thick, viscous paste and sauces; Cold-Break treatment (65°C) preserves fresh aroma and vibrant color for tomato juice and passata.

Energy-Efficient Triple-Effect Evaporator Rigs

Extracted juice enters forced-circulation vacuum evaporators. Under reduced vacuum temperatures, water is gently evaporated, concentrating raw juice into 28-30% Brix double-concentrated paste while locking in natural nutrients and taste.

Automated Aseptic Packaging & Shipping Staging

Sterilized paste is filled into 220L aseptic bag-in-drums for industrial B2B food manufacturers, while high-speed retail packaging lines fill glass jars, squeeze bottles, and sachets for international supermarket distribution.

Advanced Processing & Extraction Technology

Flume Washing & Sorting Belts

Gentle water-flume transport lines clean tomatoes without bruising, followed by high-resolution optical inspection tables to remove underripe produce.

Hot-Break & Cold-Break Extraction

Dual extraction lines: Hot-Break (95°C) to preserve pectin for thick sauces/paste, and Cold-Break (65°C) for fresh-flavor tomato juice and puree.

Triple-Effect Vacuum Evaporators

Energy-efficient forced circulation evaporators concentrating juice into 28-30% Brix paste under low vacuum temperatures, preserving bright color and vitamin C.

Aseptic Sterilization & Filling

High-temperature short-time (HTST) sterilizers linked to aseptic bag-in-drum fillers for bulk 220L industrial export drums and automated retail jar lines.

Climate-Controlled Storage Hub

Insulated warehouse maintaining optimal 18°C storage conditions for finished paste drums prior to loading onto export transport fleets.

Farmer Training & Nursery Hub

Providing smallholders with high-yield hybrid tomato seedlings, drip irrigation kits, and technical agronomy guidance to maximize seasonal yields.
